Project Description

Higley self-performed the following on the 42,000 SF The Greater Cleveland Aquarium in the Cleveland Flats historic Powerhouse building. The scope of work included: 35 Tanks, 10 Exhibit Areas, Structure Concrete Tank Walls, Metal Stud and Drywall, Structure Concrete Building Slab-on-Grade, Doors, Frames, and Hardware, Lightweight Concrete Tank In-Fills, Carpentry, Installation of Acrylic Tank Walls, Shotcrete, and Steel Reinforcing for Theming.

 

Project Achievements

  • Completed the project on time under a very aggressive schedule working with a remote New Zealand-based construction manager, by assembling and fabricating many of the exhibits on a self-perform basis.
  • Met MBE and FBE goals of 25% and 9%, respectively.
  • Value engineered a solution to create the imitation coral reefs by using plywood forms and bags of sand.
  • Met regulations regarding the building’s National Historic Landmark classification.
  • Direct-awarded subsequent work after completing our original contract.
  • 2013 Cleveland Engineering Society Award of Excellence in Design and Construction.
