The new millennium began and Higley was ready to embrace the years ahead. This decade focused on growth, exploring new markets and regions, while remaining true to our founding principles and values.

In 2000, the company celebrated its 75th anniversary. Over those 75 years, the company grew from 3 people to 65 full-time employees and 125 tradespeople. That year’s annual sales reached over $100 million. Bruce Higley said at the time, “As we look forward to the next 75 years, we are committed to continuing to adhere to our core values and not to become complacent with our position within the industry.”
At the beginning of the decade, Bruce Higley decided that Higley Construction needed to expand south and established an office in Columbus, Ohio. “By establishing a full-time presence in the Columbus region, we are able to dampen the effect of regional fluctuations in the construction economy while further enhancing our opportunity for growth,” Bruce told Crain’s magazine. The Columbus office would allow the company to work on more state government projects and new higher education facilities.
A new market emerged in this decade, with Higley seeing the growth of Senior Living projects. As the baby boomers were growing older, many senior living and continuing care facilities needed major upgrades. Higley Construction completed 4 large scale projects throughout the decade and began work on multiple other retirement communities as well. Projects such as South Franklin Circle, A.M. McGregor Home, and Jenkins Terrace marked the beginning of a strong and growing presence for Higley Construction in the Senior Living market.

As the decade came to a close, Higley remained strong and focused on continued progress. The years ahead would prove to be groundbreaking, marked by remarkable expansion and achievement.
