The last decade of the century. The 1990’s were more than just a time of change; they were a pivotal chapter in our journey. From navigating economic shifts to embracing emerging technologies, Higley laid key foundations that would shape its future for decades to come.

In 1990, to kick off the decade, Bruce Higley is appointed Executive Vice President and Corporate Treasurer in 1992, this solidified the leadership team (with Charles Stephenson continuing to serve as President) for a new era and the next phase of growth for the company. At the end of the decade in 1998, Albert Higley Jr., would retire from his position as Chairman.
For the second time in Higley’s history, we updated our logo. Seventy years after we began and 55 years after our last logo change, our updated logo involves color – a light green that has inspired our brand colors since then. The simplified design brought a sense of minimalism, a popular design trend in the later half of the decade that focused on geometric shapes and functionality.

The 1990’s saw a resurgence of education projects, both in the higher education and K-12 markets. Some clients that we still work with today, had Higley projects throughout the decade – Hathaway Brown, University School, and Cleveland State University all had projects completed in the 1990s. Major work included the Holden Center for Lake Erie College, the Music and Communications building at Cleveland State University, and the Community Education Village for Perry City School District.

The end of not only the decade but the century - the 1990’s brought new faces to the company that inspired change and growth. The close of the decade brought us into our 75th anniversary and a period of unprecedented changes within the company.
