Higley served as Construction Manager at Risk for Gensler’s Detroit Office project. This project was a tenant improvement of an existing space. It used to be a music school in the historic Bamlet Building originally built in 1897 and renamed the Detroit Institute of Music Education Building when Bedrock purchased the property in 2013. This project included demoing a hole in the second-floor slab to make room of the install of a new staircase that connected both floors of the space, new IT infrastructure, custom millwork pieces, major floor leveling on the 1st floor as just some of the unique challenges on this project.

Project Achievements 

• Design-Built Custom stairs to fit the existing and building constraint while achieving the designer’s vision.
• Built custom millwork pieces based on renderings.
• Found a floor leveling solution that works on multiple types of surfaces to make the entire floor one continues looking concrete slab.
• Coordinated hold to dimensions for a new Muraflex partition system with multi-panel sliding doors within 1/16’’ accuracy.
• Worked with Gensler to leverage supplier relationships to keep costs under budget without comprising the quality of the finishes.
